Description

Looking for a book that’ll completely scramble your expectations? Dive into “Audition” by Katie Kitamura. NPR calls it “a tightly wound family drama that reads like a psychological thriller,” and The Boston Globe promises it “will haunt your dreams.” Ready to be captivated?

The story opens with a seemingly ordinary lunch: a successful actress meeting a younger man in a Manhattan restaurant. He’s strikingly handsome, with a disquieting intensity, and young enough to be her son. What connects them? That’s where the narrative takes a sharp, unsettling turn.

“Audition” unfolds like a Möbius strip, two narratives twisting and mirroring each other, forcing you to question everything you assume about these characters. It’s a deep dive into the roles we play—partner, parent, creator, muse—and the carefully constructed facades we maintain, even with those we believe we know intimately.

This isn’t just a book you read; it’s an experience that burrows into your consciousness. You’ll find yourself constantly reevaluating your perceptions, grappling with shifting truths and hidden motives. Kitamura’s prose is both precise and mesmerizing, pulling you into a world where nothing is quite as it seems.

If you crave complex characters, intricate plots, and novels that challenge your understanding of human relationships, “Audition” is essential reading. It’s a virtuosic performance by Kitamura, a literary puzzle box that will linger in your thoughts long after you’ve reached the final page. Dare to unravel the secrets within.
